My sweet friend Alli recently had her second baby, Hazel (and sweet Becca Rose). I adore this family, their hearts, and all they love and stand for. Alli is one of those friendships I pray to hang onto forevermore.
Kate once wrote me a note when I was a troubled 7th grader-she made an impression on me back then and it has stuck with me ever since. Matt, Kate and Anders are just plain as real as you get-they don't hide anything from anyone and don't apologize for who they are. I think in the age we live in, we have lost the ability to be completely ourselves and not feel bad about it. Matt has made a mark on my husband (in the best way-no, he didn't beat him) in a way that I will never be able to repay him for. I'm thankful for the friends we have in Matt and Kate-we don't spend nearly enough time together but I know they have our backs. This family is gold.
Time goes so fast and most days, I wish it would slow down for a bit. Last February, my husband and I had the honor of shooting Chris and Carolee's wedding in Hawaii and it was nothing short of amazing. Seeing two people so absolutely in love and crazy about each other is one of my favorite things, and getting to capture it is even better. This year, seeing their beautiful family grow is equally as beautiful as getting to capture their wedding. I'm so grateful that they have allowed us to capture some of the most sacred and beautiful spaces in their lives. I absolutely adore this family and I know Aurora Mae will be one of the most loved little girls the world has ever seen.
Jane contacted me a few months ago to photograph her sweet family when her son was born. Jane and her husband Josh are two of the sweetest parents with the sweetest little baby.
Lifestyle shoots have been something that I've been dreaming of for a long time-because they are real, raw, and messy. All of the things I love wrapped up in a photoshoot. I've asked a few people if I could come into their homes and photograph small pieces of their lives. And thankfully my friends have graciously been on board. I think it's important to not just photograph a child at their best each year-don't get me wrong, I love those photos. But I think there is also importance in the gritty-this is actually what we do every day, this is ACTUALLY who we are as a family. And though it might be messy and there may be spilled milk all over the kitchen, it's beautiful. I don't have these lifestyle shoots down by any means, but I'm working at it.
Meet the Higgs family.
I've known Britney and her family for a few years now and have loved every second of getting to know them. For a long time, I prayed for close friends-the friends you can be completely candid with and you know they won't judge you. Britney is one of those friends. When I think of creative people, I think of Britney-if you've ever seen her work you know what I'm talking about. But her creativity isn't to benefit her and her work-it's for a purpose, for a story, and to share beauty with other people. Her husband Sammy is one of the most patient, kind, and compassionate people you will ever meet. He genuinely knows how to meet people and love people where they are at. These two, in my mind are superheroes-Britney runs a film business full time, and her husband works full time and helps her shoot weddings and all of the other incredible creative projects she is working on.
The two little guys in these photos are their adorable kiddos, Judson and Asher. They are two of the most outgoing, fun, sweet 2 and 4 year olds you will ever meet. Enjoy this lifestyle shoot....
